The Workshop
In this workshop, you will make a small foraging basket, finished with a long strap in either leather or cotton webbing.
Working with a range of willow varieties, you will learn key basketry techniques including pairing, waling, the French rand and a simple border.
This session offers a relaxed introduction to basketry, ideal for beginners.
Along the way, we will explore how to source materials, the qualities of different willow varieties and where to find inspiration for future work.
Tickets include lunch.
The Artist
Lisa Dear has been weaving willow baskets for many years and combines her training in Fine Art with traditional and contemporary basketry techniques to create useful and unique pieces.
She also works with trees and lives in the woods where she sources materials to incorporate into her work.
The Setting
This workshop takes place at Atelier Beside the Sea, an arts venue set within three of Brighton’s iconic King’s Road Arches between the Palace and West Piers. It offers a vibrant programme of art and craft designed to inspire both locals and visitors.
